Microsoft : The future

Future for windows
The video here is showing some pretty awesome stuff that is going on in Microsoft with the amazing workforce, this is the future of computing, the video is pretty awesome and cool at the same time, the video excites me about the future of windows and this video is not  about WP7 in my opinion, its the future of windows. Which seems to be simply mindblowing

The video talks about the shifts that will totally change the computing forever, and the shifts that will come into computing.

Future for WP7

Heres another video which seems to be showing the future of smartphones, In short WP7, i cant describe the video you have to watch it to know it :D

Microsoft : Year 2019

heres the video which makes me excited about the year 2019 :D, it shows mindboggling Technology, which according to Microsoft we would have reached till 2019

Sneak peak : Symbian^3 PR 2.0

This is another sneak peak of PR 2.0, which will be the big update coming from Nokia featuring more then 50 updates.

My Observations

  1. New Icons : New icons which were seen in a sneak peak from Nokia slides this past week, seems to be an update in PR 2.0, every icon from camera to mail has been changed to adapt the new style, which seems to be a very decent one, i like it, i like the new icons  but thats my personally.
  2. Mail : There are some minor changes in the mail application from Nokia the changes are very minor for example the mark box has been shifted from right to left, smaller fonts on some places, but a bit more stable performance, and there is still 1-2 left till the update appears so till then i expect mail application to be improved furthermore
  3. Browser : New browser has been discussed many times, but personally i am a bit disappointed from the new browser from Nokia, as in video you can see that the performance has not been improved drastically, as when tried to kinetic scroll it was not responded well by the device, but still its not the final software, but there are some new tabbing features which are better and much better implemented then in Nokia devices before, the transitions were  sluggish due to it still not being the final PR 2.0 when it will be final the transitions will be faster.
  4. New portrait Qwerty and split input : While the split input seems to be well implemented i was very disappointed with the portrait qwerty, due to Nokia choosing screen ratio 16:9 the qwerty keyboard has suffered as you can all see in the video. its far worse then what android ,WP7 and IOS has to offer.

Still its not the final software, so we will see what improvements Nokia has to offer in the final software.

Nokia PR 2.0 in works!

Out of the blue someone on YouTube uploaded this video of supposedly the nokia's next big firmware upgrade which is going to be the PR 2.0, which will bring the Big updates which are going to be split screen input, portrait qwerty keyboard, New revamped web browser and many more

It is a 5 minute long video, showcasing the PR 2.0 which is coming, in first half of 2011, but i am very disappointed with nokia, i dont think that these updates which are shown in video are good enough to compete with the other Ecosystems as nokia says. due to nokia having the 16:9 ratio 3.5 inch screen on most of the symbian^3 devices, The portrait qwerty is going to suffer

Windows phone 7 getting some angry birds love!

Angry Birds for sure is my favorite Smartphone game of today, and it truly deserves what praise and revenue the company gets for the game,I am proud to have completed the game Angry birds till now, waiting for the new levels to come.

In an interview with our friends at Pocket-lint at MWC, When asked about "when angry birds will be available on WP7" Rovio says "we're working On it",Good news for all Windows phone 7 users.

Intel Looking for a new partner for meego

When Nokia chose Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform over Google’s Android, the world was pretty surprised at the move. Symbian, Nokia’s previous smartphone OS basically got a death sentence, and MeeGo, the OS that was supposed to be Nokia’s new focus, was left out.

Intel’s CEO, Paul Otellini, had a meeting with Analysts in London today, He believes that Nokia got a lot of money from Google and Microsoft to chose WP7 as primary OS over MEEGO,He goes on to say ‘I wouldnt have made the decision he made, I would probably have gone to Android if I were him. MeeGo would have been the best strategy, but he concluded that he couldnt afford it.’.

Nokia adopting WP7 as its Primary Ecosystem!

Yes, you heard it right. Today is, in my opinion a sad day for every symbian user who is currently using symbian or is a symbian fan., Nokia announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft, IT IS HAPPENING Windows Phone 7 is going to be primary OS for nokia from now on, this will be the game changer for Nokia for either Good or Bad.

Nokia-Microsoft Partnership Announcement

There's more to the strategic alliance unveiled today, including the WP7 Marketplace subsuming the Ovi Store and some Bing and Ovi Maps interaction, so why not press play above and let the men in charge tell you about it?

Welcome to the Third Ecosystem
A long term strategic alliance between Nokia and Microsoft builds a global ecosystem that creates opportunities beyond anything that currently exists. This ecosystem offers a serious alternative to the existing choices to operators, developers and consumers. Bringing together highly complementary assets and competencies will allow this ecosystem to achieve more than any other industry partnership could achieve. Welcome to the third ecosystem.
“Today Nokia and Microsoft intend to enter into a strategic alliance. Together we will bring consumers a new mobile experience with stellar hardware, innovative software and great services. We will create opportunities beyond anything that currently exists,” says Nokia CEO Stephen Elop.
Together Microsoft and Nokia have some of the most globally recognized and treasured brands on the planet. This can be leveraged for the benefit of the ecosystem and the products. Brands like Bing, Xbox, Office, Windows Phone and Nokia, would be all in one package.
“In this partnership with Nokia, Microsoft brings its’ Windows Phone software and the brand mobile consumers want like Bing, Office and of course Xbox Live,” says Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
Nokia wouldn’t be just be another Windows Phone OEM. Nokia plans to help drive and define the future of the platform. That could include contributing expertise on hardware optimization, language support, customization of the software and helping bring Windows Phone to a larger range of price points, market segments and geographies.
Nokia operates an established, global supply and distribution network with the capability to bring products to almost every corner of the world. That provides the capability to take potential Nokia Windows Phone products and make them globally competitive. Scale is critical to a winning ecosystem. Together, Nokia and Microsoft would bring unrivalled scale in global reach, brand identity and product breadth.
Now more than ever, consumers, developers and operators have more compelling choices in the mobile space. It’s an exciting time.
Are you ready for the third ecosystem? - Nokia conversations

So what is going to happen to :
MEEGO

Under the new strategy, MeeGo becomes an open-source, mobile operating system project. MeeGo will place increased emphasis on longer-term market exploration of next-generation devices, platforms and user experiences. Nokia still plans to ship a MeeGo-related product later this year."

The nokia n9 was canceled and now their will be only 1 Meego-related product this year, which i think is going to be a tablet not a smartphone, But nokia will reduce its resources for meego as they are cutting jobs which means meego will come out later part of this year, and only 1 product, which will not be as well supported as it was going to be.

Symbian

"With Nokia's planned move to Windows Phone as its primary smartphone platform, Symbian becomes a franchise platform, leveraging previous investments to harvest additional value. This strategy recognizes the opportunity to retain and transition the installed base of 200 million Symbian owners. Nokia expects to sell approximately 150 million more Symbian devices in the years to come"

Their were also some slides presented by Stephen Elop at the announcement
the signs are not good for symbian, Symbian has 200 million user base , and is planning to sell 150 million more symbian devices in coming years , Nokia almost sold 120 million symbian devices in the year 2010 alone.

There are no dates but these slides clearly show that Symbian which is a "Franchise OS" the symbian user base will be consumed by windows Phone 7 in coming years. It is not going to be as quick, 2011 and 2012 is what is gonna take nokia to transition from Symbian to Windows.

GLOBAL – Today in London, our two companies announced plans for a broad strategic partnership that combines the respective strengths of our companies and builds a new global mobile ecosystem. The partnership increases our scale, which will result in significant benefits for consumers, developers, mobile operators and businesses around the world. We both are incredibly excited about the journey we are on together.
While the specific details of the deal are being worked out, here’s a quick summary of what we are working towards:
• Nokia will adopt Windows Phone as its primary smartphone strategy, innovating on top of the platform in areas such as imaging, where Nokia is a market leader.
• Nokia will help drive and define the future of Windows Phone. Nokia will contribute its expertise on hardware design, language support, and help bring Windows Phone to a larger range of price points, market segments and geographies.
• Nokia and Microsoft will closely collaborate on development, joint marketing initiatives and a shared development roadmap to align on the future evolution of mobile products.
• Bing will power Nokia’s search services across Nokia devices and services, giving customers access to Bing’s next generation search capabilities. Microsoft adCenter will provide search advertising services on Nokia’s line of devices and services.
• Nokia Maps will be a core part of Microsoft’s mapping services. For example, Maps would be integrated with Microsoft’s Bing search engine and adCenter advertising platform to form a unique local search and advertising experience.
• Nokia’s extensive operator billing agreements will make it easier for consumers to purchase Nokia Windows Phone services in countries where credit-card use is low.
• Microsoft development tools will be used to create applications to run on Nokia Windows Phones, allowing developers to easily leverage the ecosystem’s global reach.
• Microsoft will continue to invest in the development of Windows Phone and cloud services so customers can do more with their phone, across their work and personal lives.
• Nokia’s content and application store will be integrated with Microsoft Marketplace for a more compelling consumer experience.
We each bring incredible assets to the table. Nokia’s history of innovation in the hardware space, global hardware scale, strong history of intellectual property creation and navigation assets are second to none. Microsoft is a leader in software and services; the company’s incredible expertise in platform creation forms the opportunity for its billions of customers and millions of partners to get more out of their devices.
Together, we have some of the world’s most admired brands, including Windows, Office, Bing, Xbox Live, NAVTEQ and Nokia. We also have a shared understanding of what it takes to build and sustain a mobile ecosystem, which includes the entire experience from the device to the software to the applications, services and the marketplace.
Today, the battle is moving from one of mobile devices to one of mobile ecosystems, and our strengths here are complementary. Ecosystems thrive when they reach scale, when they are fueled by energy and innovation and when they provide benefits and value to each person or company who participates. This is what we are creating; this is our vision; this is the work we are driving from this day forward.
There are other mobile ecosystems. We will disrupt them.
There will be challenges. We will overcome them.
Success requires speed. We will be swift.
Together, we see the opportunity, and we have the will, the resources and the drive to succeed.

OUTCOME

Nokia share fell by a huge amount of 10%, never before it happened to nokia share that it fell down 10% in a single day, this clearly shows what Nokia's investor's think about the announcement Nokia made today, and to be honest I feel betrayed from nokia all those promises of last 2 years of making 2 great OS's Symbian for mid-range devices Meego for High-end devices s40 for low-end devices they have been changed the game has been changed now Nokia is just like HTC,SAMSUNG or MOTOROLA, Stephen says that this is the way to crack into the US market but in my opinion even if this works for US but what about the market where Nokia sells and have been selling from past 15 years, what about the promises nokia made about Meego, Now Meego is just a learning curve for Nokia, Me personally i am not happy with the announcement. yes i believe symbian was not the best OS out there, but i certainly feel that it is still much more funtional then the WP7 operating system i feel WP7 is a dumbphone OS , Yes IOS or android were more stable has better UI then symbian but at least Nokia was trying and was good at it, but now Everything changes nokia is just a hardware manufacturer, not a good move in my eyes, Now nokia is no different it is even cutting Its R&D on symbian and meego, I feel disappointed by Nokia and i know many other who also feel disappointed by Nokia. But time will tell

Biggest question:Is nokia going to adopt WP7?

Apparently, this is the biggest question around the gadget sites around the world that "Is nokia going to adopt wp7?", yes my friends that is what people around the gadget sites are talking over these days, even the people for whom Nokia never existed, are talking about Nokia now,Ever since engadget posted the Burning Platform Memo, it spread like the fire that would have been on the platform :D

My prediction: In my knowledge, Personally I feel WP7 is better then android and even IOS if it gets more applications because really it is the most flawless and smooth Ecosystem out there, Microsoft's money spent On WP7 has not gone in vein, But nokia adopting WP& is not like samsung or sony making an android or wp7 phone, There are 2 questions going around right now :

1.)Is nokia going to abandon Meego and Symbian if it adopts WP7?
Nokia just stopped working on what was supposedly going to be N9, but i dont think nokia is  that stupid, even if it anytime adopt WP7 or android that it will NOT ABANDON MEEGO OR SYMBIAN.My answer to that is simple NO.

2.)is nokia going to adopt WP7?
That is the main question, the man of the match or star of the night :D
Well, if someone would have asked me the same question like a year or 2 ago my answer would be a Flat NO!
But circumstances have been changed since then Symbian has been losing marketshare faster then ever, But i dont think nokia will Adopt WP7 until it can contribute to the platform or something , i think that nokia can adopt WP7 if QT is the development platform of WP7 or xbox integration in symbian and meego devices, i dont think it is just about office on symbian, it has been there. i think it is much bigger then that, but speculations will always be there all we can do right now is wait for 11 feb to come and stephen to come on the stage and BAAM! we will report whatever happens :)

HP unveils WebOS HP Veer, Palm Pre 3, and HP TouchPad tablet

At its WebOS event a few moments ago, HP announced three new Palm-centric products: one small, one medium, and one large. The HP Veer is a miniature touch smartphone, the Pre 3 updates the existing Palm Pre line of smartphones, and the HP TouchPad is a full-fledged 9.7-inch tablet. Better, all three devices can sync up contacts, data, and calendar events with one another. Details below, courtesy of CNET.

SMALL:HP VEER

Describing the new tablet, Jon Rubenstein (formerly of Palm), told the crowd that everyone is trying to make bigger smartphones but “HP is thinking beyond by thinking small.” The HP Veer will have the power of a regular smartphone, but will be much more compact. The phone has a 2.6-inch screen, slide-out tiny HP keyboard, a gesture area, other common phone features like GPS, and supports Adobe Flash. No further stats were given. The device will be available sometime this Spring, but no price was announced.

MEDIUM:PALM PRE 3

This is an update to the Palm Pre we know. It doesn’t look very different. It has the same upward-slider design as the Veer and older Palm Pre phones, though the keyboard is the largest QWERTY keyboard of any WebOS phone yet. The screen measures 3.6-inches and has a resolution of 480×800–double the resolution of the Palm Pre. In addition, it runs on a 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor, can shoot “HD video,” has a 5MP rear camera with autofocus/LED flash, and a front-facing camera as well. As far as storage, 8GB and 16GB models will be available, and the device will support HSPA+ 4G (AT&T, T-Mobile) as well as Wi-Fi connections. No LTE support was mentioned at this time. The device will be available this summer, but no pricing was announced.
LARGE: HP TOUCHPAD

We wrote that Apple has a lock on 9.7-inch screens. Well, it looks like HP may be the first manufacturer to break into that screensize. Most iPad competitors have been 10.1 inches, but the HP Touchpad has a 9.7-inch screen very reminiscent of Apple’s tablet. The device runs on an updated WebOS 2.1 and has a resolution of 1024 x 768. It weighs 1.5 pounds and is 13.7mm thick. Under the hood is a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor with a choice between 16GB and 32GB of internal storage.

Ovi Store Updated to 2.04.00038

Ovi store was Updated like A week or 2 ago But was not available in many country's but today i Got my update and this is the video of it i took

What i think of new update?
The update is about 4.5mb which is the biggest update OVI store has got since its start, 4.5 MB is sure worth is as i see Very much stable and fast OVI store their are some design changes some transitions here and there,Overall the performance has been improved significantly!

Here's a VIDEO i took of my N8!

Android 2.4 To retain the name Gingerbread?

Viewsonic has exclusively told Pocket-lint that its recently announced ViewPad 4 smartphone will be packing Android 2.4 when it launches in April. And the update will produce an OS that has the ability to work with Honeycomb apps.

The news apart from telling us about the 2.4 update that we knew is coming tells us that it will come sooner then we expected it to come up.

according to pocket-lint's sources the update will enable the single core devices to run dual core applications. and i think this is the reason we dont see major manufacturers manufacturing any 2.3 devices.

Aside from Android 2.4, the ViewPad 4 will pack flash 10.1, have HD 720p video recording, playback, upload, and mini-HDMI 720p display output. There’s a 5-megapixel auto-focus camera, Bluetooth 2.1 and 802.11 b/g/n wireless connectivity. You’ll also get a 4.1-inch screen for your trouble.

Is it the Nokia E6?

People Over at the Engadget.com found some interesting leak of a mysterious Nokia device, which according to them is the Nokia E6-00  the 1 with VGA(640 by 480) Resolution screen.

I think this is a very legit device that Nokia will announce at MWC or later sometime
But i highly doubt that this is the Nokia E6-00 Because of the small screen size.

Slick and Innovative Bubbles UI for your Nokia N8/Symbian^3 phone

Bubbles is without any doubt in my mind is the most innovative concept from the Nokia beta labs, And its still BETA! I cant wait for nokia to complete the application for faster perfomance.

You can download it from here : http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-bubbles

Bubbles is a fun and efficient way to take a shortcut to timely or useful things on your phone.  Bubbles appears when you press the “Apps” key while your device is in sleep mode (instead of the black screen with clock and unlock button).  Simply grab a bubble and drag it to one of the available drop points to initiate the corresponding action.
Currently there are bubbles available for the following actions.  See More Info for details.
Bubbles can also be used to pass the time by “throwing” bubbles and watching them bounce back and forth around the screen.

Android 2.1+ on 90% of androids!

Google published their stats on android variants
Now 89.8% of all android smartphones in the world at 2.1 or higher

PlatformAPI LevelDistribution
Android 1.533.9%
Android 1.646.3%
Android 2.1731.4%
Android 2.2857.6%
Android 2.390.8%

As you can see that the latest version of android which is 2.3 is yet just on 0.8 % of devices, which is not very good considering its been good time since 2.3 was released, androids fragmentation implementation has alot to improve on..
