Meego was offered to Other manufacturers by Nokia

“We discussed Meego with HTC, RIM, Samsung, LG, and Motorola. One manufacturer was fairly interested in Meego and the others have their own plans, and they were not particularly interested in Meego. They were afraid that Nokia had too much power in Meego”

According to an interview with Stephen Elop and Finnish newspaper Helsingen Sanomat, Nokia tried to tout MeeGo to rival manufacturers back when it was considered it’s next main Smartphone OS. Well i think with this now it is more clear why Nokia choose WP7 instead of its own Symbian and Meego, Because Nokia knew unless until other manufacturers will also use meego as 1 of their Smartphone OS, Meego will not be too interesting for developers and it would be very hard for nokia to establish Meego as A legitimate Smartphone OS, And the delays in development of Meego made it clear that nokia could not go with Meego as an Option.Hence made it clear for nokia to go with WP7

Nokia Siemens Networks has completed a $975 million purchase of Motorola Solutions Inc., a move that will affect about half of the latter’s employees in Arizona.
Motorola has more than 300 employees in Arizona, primarily in Tempe, and about half will transfer to Nokia as a result of the sale that closed Friday.
The sale was announced in July of last year and had been in the works prior to Motorola’s split last year. Arizona operations ended up in the Motorola Solutions company.
The Arizona employees were part of a group of 6,900 employees that transferred companies. Nokia Siemens Networks bought the Motorola networks business to boost its wireless network business in North America and Japan. It makes Nokia’s unit the third-largest wireless infrastructure provider in the U.S.

how much developer are interested in platforms?

recent study conducted on 2760 developers show the results given above in the picture, nothing in the survey found out something interesting or surprising except few people complaining about wp7 having less interest in the minds of develops, but what my point on the situation is that wp7 is still relatively new Ecosystem, and its growing at rapid speed faster then what Android or IOS was on its initial stages and the recent nokia deal will be also very much beneficial for  wp7 after nokia releases its first windows powered smartphone, which according to Stephen elop is going to be an 2011 Q4 even, and around time mango will also be released so it means all good for microsoft during that time.

student project use smartphone camera to cure malaria

This year’s Imagine Cup 2011, a student contest sponsored by Microsoft, asked student entrants to "imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems."
Few problems come tougher than Malaria, which kills 1 million children a year, mostly in developing countries with little infrastructure and few resources.
Tristan Gibeau and Wilson To ‘s LifeLens app hopes to help reduce this number by speeding diagnosis of the disease by reducing the need for an expensive and often unavailable laboratory to spot the parasite in blood.
"It's going to make a difference in trying to contain the outbreak of malaria," said Gibeau, the project's software designer. "In the big picture, it'll hopefully help in the fight against most diseases out there and make everybody's life a little easier."
Gibeau said the software application, which runs on a Windows Phone 7 handset with a special lens attached to the phone camera, can take a picture of a blood sample, process the data to detect malaria parasites, quantify how much malaria is in the sample and point the parasites out to the phone user. "It actually draws a red box around the clusters of malaria, and it actually notifies you how many it found," Gibeau said.
Gibeau is planning to expand the technology to allow the diagnosis of sickle cell disease and other diseases, and the student also hopes to eventually make a living out of developing the concept further.
“From different conversations we've had with investors, we feel that this definitely is a money-maker," he said.

Opera Mini Bags 100 Million Users

The world's most prolific mobile browser Opera Mini has found home in 100 million mobile devices according to Opera's statistics recorded in March. The number of monthly Opera Mini users, a browser available for 3,000 devices,  across the globe has grown by 11 million since February 2011 and doubled from the 50 million mark celebrated in February 2010. That's a lot of numbers, which pale in comparison to the two billion daily pageviews claimed by Opera

Opera had made a similar 100 million announcement two months ago, but that was for a combination of Opera Mini and Mobile numbers, but this landmark was achieved by Opera Mini on its own accord. "Sweeeet!" said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software at the achievement.

Yes My friends, Xperia X10 will get Android 2.3

However, I am happy to inform you that this has changed. We plan to bring an upgrade to Android Gingerbread for the XperiaTM X10 to generic trade kits end Q2 / early Q3 this year. We have heard your requests all along but until today have not been able to confirm this. The great work on our 2011 products XperiaTM PLAY, XperiaTM arc and XperiaTM neo actually has enabled us to start the work in a special project bringing Gingerbread to the XperiaTM X10.

The update will update The Sony Ericsson x10  To Android 2.3, this came as a surprise to me and many others and is a very good news for all the Sony Ericsson x10 owners, After Sony Ericsson Said that Android 2.1 is final update for x10 many were disappointed, But Now It will get Gingerbread Love, However the update is just for x10 not for x8 or x10 mini.

Nokia may Not use windows For its tablets?

Many Rumors are coming, In which They state that Nokia may not use Windows 7 for its Tablets and instead Use Meego, And i can see it coming true, as the Meego on tablets the previews we saw were very innovative and Intuitive, And windows 7,Everybody knows the problem of it, Not really touch friendly and Not compatible with ARM processors, So i think it will not be a surprise at all if nokia use meego as their operating system for its tablets market, I hope That meego for tablet is Ready for mass use very soon, as in the previews we saw, At least i found it very innovative.

Facebook Acquiring Snaptu

Facebook is set to acquire mobile apps company Snaptu, it has emerged.

Snaptu specialises in enabling the development of apps for low-cost feature phones. On the Snaptu blog today, the company writes: “Earlier this year, we announced the launch of a new Facebook mobile application to give people a great mobile experience on a broad range of feature phones. The Facebook for Feature Phones app currently works on more than 2,500 devices.
“We soon decided that working as part of the Facebook team offered the best opportunity to keep accelerating the pace of our product development. And joining Facebook means we can make an even bigger impact on the world.”
Today’s news was first reported by Israeli newspapers and TechCrunch pegs the value of the acquisition at around $60-70 million. Snaptu is based in London, with offices in Tel Aviv and Silicon Valley.
As Facebook looks to expand its user base ever further, being accessible on the low-cost featurephones available in developing markets is incredibly important. The Snaptu deal should aid this. Snaptu writes on its blog: “We’ll be working hard to offer a richer and more advanced Facebook app on virtually every mobile phone.”

ZTE Will Produce Windows Phone 7 Devices When Demand Is Appealing

earlier today where Wu Sa, Director of mobile device operations for ZTE UK, provided some insight on ZTE developing for Windows Phone 7. Wu Sa was straight forward and clarified that there should be no doubt about ZTE producing for Windows Phone 7, but that production will come when demand for WP7 is good.

“Our platform strategy is not driven by particular technological development; it’s purely driven by market demand so we cherry-pick technology to support that.” Wu Sa told TechRadar

Wu Sa continued saying that currently ZTE focuses on the Android platform because the market need is good, but they have been closely monitoring Windows Phone 7. At the moment ZTE does not see that same demand with the Windows Phone 7 platform. ZTE is currently the world’s 5th largest handset manufacturer seeing tremendous revenue within the past few years. It would be of great benefit to have ZTE join the ranks of other great manufacturers for Windows Phone 7.
How soon do you think ZTE will finally decide to produce for the WP7 platform? Perhaps when Nokia and other manufacturers release more devices (hopefully) later this year, then ZTE will finally take the bite.

WP7 marketplace Reaches 11k Apps

Windows Phone 7's Marketplace just reached 11000 Applications, If you Know or heard about it, Their marketplace reached 10k Total No. of apps Just last week or 8 days ago,That means That it got 1k Apps in 1 week time,Which is great. And its Getting faster and faster Week by week. It will soon surpass Blackberry world.

First Nokia WP7 A Q4 2011 event?

“Nokia’s chairman has said Windows-based Nokia phones will be on sale from 2012, though Elop has said he aims to produce a Windows phone by the end of this year.”
According to Nokia's chairman, First Nokia Windows phone 7 Smartphone is going to be a 2012 event, which in my opinion Is not bad, I just hope that it is anyway Near that  Leaked Nokia WP7 Device, I fell completely in Love with that design, I just hope Nokia announce its first windows phone device by Q4 of 2011, They should not do it later then 2011 Q4, And if Nokia Produces a beautiful Device, with N8 level camera, And other things which nokia is best at, I think i will Buy one, as the more i see windows Phone i feel that its not bad, Its just missing some features, which all will be There by mango Update, and nokia device is also going to be near The mango Update, So lets hope for the best!

Nokia PR 2.0 Web Browser.

The Much awaited Nokia Symbian PR2.0 Seems That is almost done and can be out any minute now, and is available though Navifirm, And someone installed it on their respective C7 though Navifirm, Here is a 14 minute long video of PR 2.0 Video focusing just on the Web browser, which is the most wanted update by symbian users right now as Let me say, the current Nokia browser Flat Out sucks!

The video starts You can see that the Interface of the web browser has changed now you can see the link of the website you are On, you can see In the video that there are very much improvements in how fast the page renders, Their are significant amount of improvement in page rendering speeds, and The scrolling has also been improved Significantly. But even after this much improvements You can see in the video That the scrolling is still choppy,And the web browsing experience in not pleasing at all, and not At par with any OS.But this is not the final build of PR 2.0, At-least i hope that this is not the final web browser, Because I really need a better browser on my Nokia N8.

Ipad 2 vs Motorola Xoom

It is the Apple vs Oranges, Windows vs mac, Xbox vs PlayStation of The Tablet world, The 2 best tablets That IOS has to offer, head to head.

Stephen Elop Talks about Nokia-MS deal and many interesting stuff!

This is a video of a very interesting Interview Of Stephen Elop The CEO of Nokia, and as people as the Trojan horse sent from Microsoft to Nokia! In a 23 minute Long, But Very very interesting Interview.I dont have much to say about it, Just check it out!I haven't watched the whole interview yet, i fast forwarded here and there, when i will watch the whole interview I will post an article about it maybe, But lets see!

Why I'm Close to Giving Up on Windows Phone 7, as a User and a Developer

NOTE: This article is not written by me, i just found it Looking around, originally written by danny tuppeny http://blog.dantup.com/ And the article is long, But surely worth a Read!
Note: This is a pretty long post, but it's the only way to get across why I'm suddenly so disappointed in Windows Phone 7 - a platform I've been so excited about for so long. I really hope someone on the WP7 team takes the time to read it to the end. I'm probably not unique in having these feelings.
It's a harsh title, so first, a little background...
I've been waiting for Windows Phone 7 for around 10 years. Really! See what I did there? :)
In 2001 I finished my A-Levels and got a job as a web programmer. I lived with my parents and had plenty of cash to wastespend. One of the first gadgets I bought was a Compaq iPaq. I convinced myself that it was really useful, and that it saved me lots of time, but in reality, it was horrid. The Windows operating system was slow and sluggish and the usability was pretty awful. I had to buy a sleeve that made the device twice as thick and a huge WiFi card just to allow it to connect to anything. It was crap, but I loved it anyway.
When Microsoft released the .NET Compact Framework, I was so excited. I could now write my own applications to run on this device that would fit in my pocket. Awesome! Except, it wasn't. The device was still a pain in the ass to use and the performance still sucked. The ideas were great. The execution was terrible.
It wasn't long before I picked up an XDA, so I no longer had to carry both a mobile phone and a PDA. Good times! Or not. The mobile version of Windows was still pretty bad.
Over the coming years, I bought practically every Windows mobile device I could afford. I lived in hope that this new device would be nice and snappy, and Microsoft will have improved the OS and added functionality. It never happened, but it didn't stop me throwing money at them each time, in hope.
Fast forward a few more years, and I'd been playing with Managed DirectX. The idea of programming games in C# was pretty exciting. Ultimately this became XNA, and the Zune wasn't far behind. I really wanted a Zune, but the UK launch was delayed and delayed, and ultimately never happened.
When Apple released the iPhone, I started to wonder if the reason we hadn't seen a Zune in the UK was that Microsoft were holding back to release a ZunePhone. Despite waiting and waiting, this didn't happen.
During this time (since 2001), my career was built on building web applications in Microsoft technologies. My life is well and truly in the Microsoft camp. I love .NET, I love C# and I love Visual Studio. It made me die a little inside every time I had to do some work in PHP or fire up Eclipse...
However... In 2008, I ditched my Windows-based XDA and bought an iPhone. Sorry Microsoft, I'd been waiting for 7 years, and you still hadn't delivered.
I loved my iPhone. It made me sad that there was no competition from Microsoft. I even started working on iPhone apps. I really hate Mac OSX, Objective-C, and XCode. But I had to go with the market.
Imagine how excited I was when Microsoft announced Windows Phone 7! I can ditch this Apple nonsense and develop applications in C#, Visual Studio, XNA, Silverlight! Finally, Microsoft are putting their weight into a promising mobile platform. Despite previous failures, this time, I have hope that they can really do it.
Through my company, I was able to get access to a developer WP7 device from Microsoft. The hardware was a little shoddy, but the OS was very promising. Everything was looking good!
I'd convinced my company we should be working on a Windows Phone 7 version of our iPhone apps, and I resisted picking up an iPhone4 because Windows Phone 7 was the way forward. I kept my eyes open for a UK launch date in the hope it wouldn't overlap with my holiday in Orlando, so I could get one right away. As luck would have it, the launch was announced as a few weeks before my holiday!
This is where it started to go wrong...
As we got closer to launch, I noticed there seemed to be a huge lack of advertising. I started to doubt whether the launch would be met at all. I started calling around local stores, and nobody knew anything about the launch. WTF? How can they not know about Microsoft's competitor to the iPhone?! I popped into a Carphone Warehouse over the road from the office where I work on launch day. The staff knew nothing about WP7. I called all the local Orange stores, hoping for a HTC Mozart. Nobody knew when, or if, they would be getting any Windows Phone 7 devices. Wow.
I wasn't giving up that easily, so I spent the next few weeks (getting close to my Orlando holiday) trying to track down a device. Eventually, I found that a local O2 store had HTC HD7s in stock. I rushed down there, and managed to convince them to sell me one as Pay-As-You-Go (since I'm on, and very happy with, giffgaff). I was made up! Windows Phone 7 was awesome. Just being able to pin a tile for my wife and see calendar appointments on the homescreen was enough for me to purchase it over an iPhone!
Then I went on holiday to Orlando. I took loads of geo-tagged pics, and was genuinely really impressed with the phone. Congratulations Microsoft. You've finally done it. But still, where is all the fanfare? You need to show people how awesome this phone is - then you'll sell bucket-loads!
As time went on, cracks started to show. There were bugs. Many bugs. At one point, the SMS message store for my wife got corrupt, which meant I couldn't send, or read, text messages to/from her. I got in touch with the UK WP7 developer advocate that had sorted out the developer phone for my company, and explained the issue. After many emails going back and forth I was told that there may be logs on my phone that would help Microsoft track down this issue but security procedures do not allow them to share a tool to get the logs off my device. I was instead, told to try a factory reset. This fixed the issue, but Microsoft were no closer to finding/fixing the bug.
Another pretty annoying bug was that the bluetooth randomly disconnects from my car. Frequently. About every 2-3 minutes. If I'm on a call when this happens, the call stays open, but just normally via the handset in my pocket. As you can imagine - I can't hear the person at the other end, and they can't hear me. 10-20 seconds later, it reconnects, and the call continues.
Because I preferred coding in VS/C# so much, I started work on a Windows Phone 7 game in my spare time. I even got a few colleagues to join in by creating their own games, as part of an XNA coding competition. Most of these guys had never even coded C#, never mind written a game!
My game is called Badger Quest, and currently has a few playable levels. There are no videos online yet, but you can see how it looks from the background on the Twitter page. It'll be pretty similar to Mario, though played by tapping buttons on the screen to use your abilities (jump, turn, throw, slash, etc.) which are limited in number.
As time went by, I started to have doubts. WP7 handsets weren't selling very well. The marketplace was buggy (eg. returns to the "Xbox LIVE" filter when you press "Back" from looking at an "indie" game). I started to wonder how seriously Microsoft were taking their platform. The OS was great, but how they responded to initial feedback and bug reports (and how quickly) would ultimately decide the fate of the platform.
With a huge outcry over the lack of Copy & Paste, Microsoft announced there would be an update in January that would add this. Excellent - if we don't get the bugfixes before then, they'll be in that update. All will be good.
Sadly, it wasn't good. The update was delayed. And delayed. There was zero transparency from Microsoft. Despite the rest of the company making huge strides in this area over the previous few years, Windows Phone 7 is a quiet, closed box. Nobody knew what was happening with the update, and more importantly, the bug fixes.
Eventually, an update started to roll out. Yay! Only, we quite quickly discovered it wasn't NoDo. It was a pre-update update. An update that updates the update system. Why couldn't this just be bundled with NoDo?! More annoying was that Microsoft didn't announce this update until after they started pushing it. They told us nothing about what it did.
Then it got worse. One of my colleagues was prompted to install his update. He connected his phone as described, and the update started. Then it failed. It gave an error saying his phone was not updated, and could not be rolled back. He tried all sorts of resets, with no luck. His phone was bricked. As I'd been one of the people that had suggested he get a WP7, I felt pretty bad. He spent the next day being bounced between Microsoft, Virgin and Samsung, trying to get his phone working. During this time, he could not use his phone in any way. The staff at Virgin and Samsung knew very little about WP7 and more specifically, this update. Eventually, Virgin agreed to send him a new handset.
Fast forward a few more days, and we're all still waiting for NoDo, and our bugfixes. It's been over four months and we've still had zero bugfixes. Rumours start spreading across the web that NoDo has been delayed. Again, it takes a week before Microsoft finally come out and tell us what's going on.
Hopefully if you've read this far, you now know why I'm starting to have serious doubts about Windows Phone 7. If Microsoft can't turn around bugfixes in a timely fashion, what's going to happen when people start finding exploits (and they will find exploits)?
Of course, if I'm not confident in the platform as a user, I can't be as a developer. I've put my Windows Phone 7 development on hold. I can't commit to spending more time on a platform that Microsoft seems to be sending the way of previous versions. I still believe the OS is excellent, but sadly, that's only half the battle.
I'm not giving up, just yet. I truly believe Windows Phone 7 can be something brilliant, but there are definitely issues that need addressing. To show how seriously I believe Microsoft could make this work, I've applied to go and work for the Windows Phone team via the Microsoft Careerswebsite. If Microsoft want to make Windows Phone 7 better, here's an offer for another set of hands to test the platform. I'm serious - I'd relocate from the UK to the US to help work on making Windows Phone 7 better, because I think it could have a strong future.
