Meego was offered to Other manufacturers by Nokia

“We discussed Meego with HTC, RIM, Samsung, LG, and Motorola. One manufacturer was fairly interested in Meego and the others have their own plans, and they were not particularly interested in Meego. They were afraid that Nokia had too much power in Meego”

According to an interview with Stephen Elop and Finnish newspaper Helsingen Sanomat, Nokia tried to tout MeeGo to rival manufacturers back when it was considered it’s next main Smartphone OS. Well i think with this now it is more clear why Nokia choose WP7 instead of its own Symbian and Meego, Because Nokia knew unless until other manufacturers will also use meego as 1 of their Smartphone OS, Meego will not be too interesting for developers and it would be very hard for nokia to establish Meego as A legitimate Smartphone OS, And the delays in development of Meego made it clear that nokia could not go with Meego as an Option.Hence made it clear for nokia to go with WP7

Nokia Siemens Networks completed a $975 million purchase of Motorola Solutions

Nokia Siemens Networks has completed a $975 million purchase of Motorola Solutions Inc., a move that will affect about half of the latter’s employees in Arizona.
Motorola has more than 300 employees in Arizona, primarily in Tempe, and about half will transfer to Nokia as a result of the sale that closed Friday.
The sale was announced in July of last year and had been in the works prior to Motorola’s split last year. Arizona operations ended up in the Motorola Solutions company.
The Arizona employees were part of a group of 6,900 employees that transferred companies. Nokia Siemens Networks bought the Motorola networks business to boost its wireless network business in North America and Japan. It makes Nokia’s unit the third-largest wireless infrastructure provider in the U.S.

how much developer are interested in platforms?

recent study conducted on 2760 developers show the results given above in the picture, nothing in the survey found out something interesting or surprising except few people complaining about wp7 having less interest in the minds of develops, but what my point on the situation is that wp7 is still relatively new Ecosystem, and its growing at rapid speed faster then what Android or IOS was on its initial stages and the recent nokia deal will be also very much beneficial for  wp7 after nokia releases its first windows powered smartphone, which according to Stephen elop is going to be an 2011 Q4 even, and around time mango will also be released so it means all good for microsoft during that time.
