Nokia Siemens Networks has completed a $975 million purchase of Motorola Solutions Inc., a move that will affect about half of the latter’s employees in Arizona.
Motorola has more than 300 employees in Arizona, primarily in Tempe, and about half will transfer to Nokia as a result of the sale that closed Friday.
The sale was announced in July of last year and had been in the works prior to Motorola’s split last year. Arizona operations ended up in the Motorola Solutions company.
The Arizona employees were part of a group of 6,900 employees that transferred companies. Nokia Siemens Networks bought the Motorola networks business to boost its wireless network business in North America and Japan. It makes Nokia’s unit the third-largest wireless infrastructure provider in the U.S.
